Peter T. Bossert, 53 of 8055 English Rose Way, Roswell Georgia passed peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2010 with great courage and dignity after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and heart disease.
Susan, his loving and devoted wife of 24 years was by his side. His children, who meant the world to him Thom, 21 and Haley, 18 talked to him throughout the night. Both children attend the University of Georgia.
Peter was a member of Fellowship Bible Church where he was recently baptized. Pastor Matt Farlow officiated. Peter's "band of brothers in Christ" Jeff Osborn, Joe Poirot, Craig Yardley, and Stuart Bauman served. Peter was a light and inspiration to all.
Son of Beatrice Bossert, Cary, North Carolina, and Frederick Bossert, deceased, Peter was raised in Hartford Wisconsin. Peter is survived by his older siblings Michael Bossert (Marie) , Kathleen Bossert (Thomas Ferlazzo), James Bossert (Kelly), and Annemarie Bossert (Thomas Lovett).
Peter graduated Hartford High School with honors in 1975. He lettered in Football, Swimming and Track and Field. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison on a swim scholarship where he was elected captain by his teammates. He set state records in butterfly. Each winter break he trained in Hawaii. Peter took a semester off to travel across Europe. He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelors of Business Administration.
Following university, Peter moved to Chicago, Illinois where he was employed by Deloitte Haskins and Sells. Peter achieved the professional distinction of Certified Public Accountant from the University of Illinois.
Peter moved to New York in 1982. He worked as Assistant Vice President, Internal Audit for Chase Bank while concurrently pursuing a Masters Degree at night. Peter was awarded the degree of Masters of Business Administration by New York University Stern School of Business in 1990.
Peter married Susan Walzer September 1, 1985 at the United Nations Chapel, New York City. A reception followed at the Beekman Tower Hotel. Their love was true and everlasting.
Peter was Vice President, Oil and Gas Properties, UBS Asset Management with an office in Rockefeller Center, New York City.
With a house in the suburbs, baby on the way, Peter was living the American Dream. Then he was struck by Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic, debilitating illness. Peter courageously faced and conquered the progressively worse attacks and loss of mobility.
To better manage his health, the family relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1994. Peter graciously assumed the role of stay at home dad. Peter was active in the community coaching swim team, co-leading boy scouts, tutoring disadvantaged students and studied at Temple Beth El. He lifted weights and swam daily.
In 1999 the family relocated to Maple Grove, Minnesota where Peter was active in boy scouts and volunteered tutoring students in math.
Peter and his family moved to Roswell, Georgia in 2001 where Peter quickly became a beloved member of the community. Peter was active in raising Thom and Haley. He was proud of Thom composing music, forming a band and his scholastic achievements. He delighted in Haley's participation in Marching Band, Swim Team, Governor's Honors and hearing her give the keynote speech at her Roswell High School graduation.
Peter was self-sufficient and drove a van with hand controls.
Peter enjoyed history and travel. Peter and Susan traveled to Austria, England, Scotland, France, Holland, Switzerland, St. Thomas, Bermuda, Hawaii and many parts of the United States. Peter loved beach vacations with his children along the North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida coasts and the Caribbean. But his favorite memories were simply of home, playing Scrabble or sitting on the patio with his family and friends.
Peter suffered his first heart attack in 2006. He continued to swim and lift weights. With each subsequent heart attack and hospitalization for systemic infections he courageously came back.
Peter's grace, charm, courage and sense of humor in the midst of great suffering was admirable. Peter drew his strength from his beloved wife, Susan, his children, Thom and Haley who were the world to him. The love of his wife, delight in his children and faith in God carried him through great suffering.
To his friends there were times when it seemed Peter had more than enough cares of his own but he cared so deeply for them. To his doctors there were times when it seemed he had given all he had to give, yet he kept on giving. Peter was a true friend and blessing to everyone he met. Peter will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 3:00 PM from Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen." 1 Peter 5:10
